Oxford Revisited The 1998 Inspector Morse Outing Saturday 29th. – Sunday 30th. August
Full details with costs and a booking form will be available shortly. The weekend will actually be a residential one based at Brasenose College (Lonsdale College) and will be available from the Friday night for those who wish to arrive early. Saturday will explore some of the places associated with Morse outside Oxford. Our coach will take members first to Henley where a private viewing of Brakspear’s Brewery (which in your editor’s opinion produces the best bitter in the world!), used so effectively in The Sins Of The Father, has been arranged. Lunch will also be taken in Henley before continuing to Abingdon for a guided tour of the town museum, which will include – by special permission – a visit to the roof which gives a wonderful panorama over the surrounding countryside. From here it is a short drive to the Didcot Railway Centre featured in The Wolvercote Tongue., where we will be given another guided tour with afternoon cream tea being taken in the royal saloon. The date of the weekend was partly chosen because this is a steam day at the railway. After the return to Oxford, a Gala Dinner will be served in Brasenose College where Colin Dexter will be our guest of honour. Sunday will be a more leisurely day spend in Oxford itself. After breakfast, and check out at Brasenose, Lindsay Siviter will again give members one of her highly informative walks around Oxford city centre investigating some more Morsian sights. Lunch will be taken at The Mitre which was featured in The Last Enemy and Happy Families. After lunch there will be a guided tour of The Ashmolean Museum where the Wolvercote Tongue (The Alfred Jewel) may be viewed. The weekend will wind down gently over a final cream tea at The Randolph Hotel opposite. | ||
