Ideas For Future Occasions

Some interesting ideas for future society events have been proposed by Sam and Sylvia Redvers. It would be interesting to hear more opinions from the members of the Society about the level of support for these kind of events.

(1) Evening concerts after dinner, Oxford or elsewhere, of Mozart’s ‘Magic Flute’, or ‘Requiem’, but avoiding Morse’s bete noire ‘Eine Kliene’, or a Wagnerian performance of the ‘Ring Cycle’. Perchance even a trip to Bayreuth!

(2) Theatre Outings - Shakespeare, literary and poetry evenings at an Oxford college with readings plus talks on Morse’s favourite authors such as Austen, Larkin, T. S. Eliot, A. E. Houseman, Yeats, Betjeman, Kipling etc. Each evening would inevitably have a selection of good wines to accompany (if not a raffle)!

(3) A visit to the ‘Oxford Mail’ with a view to following how a local crime story is covered and reported.

(4) A London visit to ‘The Times’ in Wapping and possible conversations with the crossword compiler.

Some other ideas will be found in the ‘2001 Survey Form’ which we would like every member to complete (and return).
