Welcome to the latest edition of Endeavour. It has been a busy time for the society lately with the annual Inspector Morse Society weekend being held in Oxford from September 14th to September 16th 2001. The weekend was a great success and we were delighted to see so many new faces as well as the old stalwarts!

Our thoughts were very much with our American society members who were in many cases on their way to, or at, American airports when they were forced to return home owing to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Our sympathy goes out to all of those affected by the tragedy and we hope to see many of our American society members at some time in the near future.

In November there was a highly entertaining evening held at BAFTA when our guest of honour was Ted Childs, the Executive Producer of Inspector Morse, who gave those present a splendid insight to the making of the series. We were also delighted to see James Grout in our audience.

My thanks go to the all the people who have sent in points of interest and Morse related articles. Every contribution is very much appreciated and though it may take some time for them to be used I take information and ideas from all the letters that the society receives. Pleases keep the letters coming as it is your input that helps the society to go from strength to strength. Indeed this issue sees a special supplement containing an article, too long for the newsletter, by Tim Coghlan concerning the theft of a narrow boat which he endeavoured to investigate in the footsteps of Chief Inspector Morse.

I hope you enjoy this belated edition of Endeavour. The newsletters should, from now on, become more frequent especially since with the advent of a formal subscription there will be sufficient funding to make it so. Finally due to space limitations the answers to the ‘Remorseful Crossword’ and Part III of the ‘Lindsay Siviter Quiz from Endeavour 4 will be held over to the next issue.
